EGO VS SELF RESPECT
In terms of the
psychologists, “ego” is our conscious mind, the part of our identity
that we consider our "self." But I think it is simply our tendency to
defend our mistakes and to stick on our stand by one or the other way even when
we know that we are wrong. On the other hand ‘self respect’ is a tendency to
stick on our basic and logical principals. Generally, people suffering with
‘ego’ think that they have a great self respect and stick to their stand but
actually it is not true. There are two
main situations that lead to arrogance, one is when you're
wrong and you can't face it; the other is when you're right and nobody else can
face it.” The first one leads
to ‘ego’ whereas 2nd leads to self respect. Now a day’s ‘ego’ is the
main cause of sour relations in families, friends and at work place etc. Several couples have been separated due to their
ego though they have love and regards for each other. They even do not know how it happened yet
their inner voice doesn’t allow them to speak to one other. How beautifully the
Great Poet Gulzar Sahib has expressed it “Unhen ye zid thi ke hum bulate, Humein ye ummid vo pukarein”. The weak people are dominated by their ego
whereas the wise dominate their ego. We feel heart if someone does not pay us
proper attention even without knowing the reasons which disturb our peace of
mind. As a children we hesitate to touch
the feet of our parents. Generally we do not see a person with our true eyes
but in flaws of our own egos. So our eyes become cloudy through which we see
one other. Ego is like an acid which even burns the vessel in which it is kept.
It is the greatest enemy and the greatest war to be won is to overcome our ego.
If we love all human beings intensely enough, we must burn the cloudy layers of
ego to live happily with great self respect.
